04 How to Ask AI When You Are Stuck
This guide explains the right role of Q&A mode: it is not for drifting away from the course, but for clarifying unclear points inside the current task.
What You Will Complete in This Lesson
This lesson helps you understand the role of Q&A mode in the learning flow: when reading a tutorial or task leaves something unclear, uncertain, or needing confirmation, you can use Q&A mode to clarify while staying inside the current course.
You should know when to clarify first, and when to move on to practice or another mode.
4.1 Use Q&A Mode When You Are Stuck
You already know that after entering a course, you read the task entry and the body first. A common next question is:
I read it, but still do not fully understand.
What should I do now?In the AI panel, choose Q&A mode and say what is unclear.
Q&A mode is useful for three things: explaining an unclear concept, confirming what this lesson is asking you to focus on, and checking whether your understanding has drifted.
Q&A mode is not for bypassing the tutorial, and it is not a separate manual. It is more like a teacher sitting beside you while you study: ask where you are stuck, clarify any sentence you are unsure about, and confirm your understanding by speaking it aloud for review.
It is most suitable for three kinds of situations:
| Situation | How to use Q&A mode |
|---|---|
| Concept is not understood | Ask AI to explain in simpler words |
| Task boundary is unclear | Ask AI to confirm what this lesson should focus on |
| Need to confirm understanding | State your understanding and ask whether there is clear drift |
All of these are about “helping understand the current course.” In these situations, Q&A mode is more direct than Practice, Explain Back, Guided Questions, or Diagnostic.
4.2 Ask Exactly Where You Are Stuck
You do not need to speak in a formal style when asking AI.
If you do not understand a sentence, you can say:
I do not understand this sentence. If you are unsure whether your understanding is correct after reading, you can say:
Is my understanding like this?If you are not sure what this lesson should focus on first, you can say:
What is the most important point in this lesson?Any of these can work. Keep your questions rooted in the current tutorial and current task, so AI supports your learning instead of moving the conversation elsewhere.
4.3 Do Not Stop at Q&A
Q&A mode can make one point clear, but “clear” is not “mastered.”
For example, you ask:
What is the difference between Practice Mode and Q&A mode?Even if AI explains it and you feel clearer, the next step is not to stay in Q&A endlessly. You can enter Practice Mode and answer several related flashcards to check whether you can make the judgment yourself.
You can split it like this:
Q&A mode: help me understand
Practice Mode: check whether I grasped key points
Explain Back mode: check whether I can explain clearly
Guided Questions mode: check whether my reasoning holds
Diagnosis mode: judge what to do nextJust know these relative positions first.
4.4 When to Use Q&A Mode First
There are three typical moments to use Q&A mode first.
First, reading does not go through.
If one term, sentence, or example blocks you, do not force yourself to push through. Ask AI to restate with different wording before finishing the entire tutorial.
Second, even after reading the task entry, you are still uncertain.
For example, this lesson might be labeled “start practice,” but you are unsure what exactly practice checks. You can ask AI: “What key points will practice check in this lesson?”
Third, ask once before practicing to confirm.
If you have a preliminary understanding, say it to AI first. After confirming no obvious drift, begin practice.
4.5 Do Not Stay in Q&A Mode Too Long
Q&A mode is useful, but it is not the end of all learning actions.
If you basically understand, move on to practice. If you generally understand but cannot explain clearly, try Explain Back. If you have judgment but unstable reasons, try Guided Questions. If you do not know the next step, use diagnosis.
Use this decision rule:
Do not understand -> clarify first
Understand roughly -> practice
Cannot explain -> Explain Back
Reasons are unstable -> Guided Questions
Do not know next step -> diagnosisRemember this basic role: Q&A mode helps clarification within the current course. After understanding, continue with practice or checking.
